Lets start at the front, the main hit men. Over the decades we have had some belters, but of the these, who do reckon is the best?
Micky Worswick made 275 appearances for Latics and fired us in to the Football League in an age of heavy footballs and even heavier pitches. He scored 73 goals in his days here and is loved by everyone at the club.
David Lowe is still our all time record goal scorer, though Sir Andrew Liddell might argue that cup goals don’t count. Lowey (over 2 stints at Wigan) scored over 80 goals (63 in the League) and nearly clocked 300 appearances.
Super Stuart Barlow was part of the Whelan revolution signing in 1998 and scoring over 50 goals in 2 (and a bit) seasons.
The Duke Nathan Ellington is still the record goal scorer at the new Stadium. Part of that famous squad that got us promoted to the top flight of English football.
He spent 3 years with scoring nearly 60 goals and was part of arguably the best partnership ever when [played alongside Jason Roberts
Grigg of course is on track to take 3 goal scoring records for himself, if he can keep up his form of last season. He currently sits on 48 league goals and had banged 12 in the cup too.
You don’t have to decide now though, if you want to chat to some or all of them in person (Grigg and Barlow are yet to confirm, but we are working on them) get to the 40th Anniversary Dinner (open to non members), full details and booking here
