9 weeks ago after the club fell into administration we knew we had to act to do anything we could to keep the club going. 

The initial crowdfunder was setup and the fans will not need reminding that this £198,000 raised allowed the remaining fixtures to be fulfilled…ensuring the future of the club at least in the short term. An amazing achievement and something which will go down in the history of Wigan Athletic.

 

As the post-season weeks passed we looked ahead to the new season and worked with the administrators to plan ahead. With an uncertain date for any potential takeover and therefore being able to secure any sponsorship for the season WASC stepped in to buy the new player kits for September. It will be one of the proudest moments for our organisation when the team step out this afternoon in those kits emblazoned with the WASC logo. Very few Football Clubs have been sponsored by their own supporters. 

 

Finally, two weeks ago WASC decided to act to aim to ensure the long term future of the Football Club. A seemingly impossible task to raise as much as possible to contribute to an ownership solution for WAFC. Working once again with the brilliant crowdfunder we have so far raised over £670,000 and we are actively working with the administrators and potential bidders to find that solution. It is not easy, and we are negotiating rather than controlling this situation. But as a volunteer organisation working on behalf of all our fans we are working very hard to ensure our club survives. 

 

So we call on all Supporters and friends of WAFC this afternoon to be proud of our achievements together so far. As you watch the team run out in those shirts at 12pm…it’s fair to think to yourself…we did that.
