OWASC Breakdown of Activities 2024-25

Your Official Supporters Club Trust has again done some amazing work this season, we would like to thank all of the members and non-members that have made this possible.

 

This seasonSupport for Wigan Athletic Women – provision of £50 voucher for every game for the POTM.

Hosting the girls in the South Stand Bar and Whelan’s with interviews to raise profile.

Over £2500 spent on the team this year.

This seasonHeritage Project – Once again, funded over £1000 for the group this season including by delivering Stadium Tours to raise funds.

Successful grant application by the Community Trust with our support to secure £130,000 of National Lottery Heritage funding

Two heritage books commissioned and sold for cost to supporters – 1978-79 and 2023-24 – written by the Heritage group.

Heritage Museum now packed with memorabilia. A number of high profile visitors this season including Mike Danson, Stuart Barlow,  Paul Scharner, Nathan Ellington.

This seasonPurchase of hospitality for the Tomaco Lounge – two members of the Supporters’ Club are drawn out each home match to experience the hospitality at the club
This seasonSponsorship of two players once again this season – Callum McManaman and Jamie Carragher.  All associated benefits were used in prize draws for members to receive
This season2800 fans have travelled with the Supporters’ Club this season on over 60 coaches.  Short journeys include a bus option, with longer journeys having a VIP offer.  We are the only travel provider to take a coach to every single game this season. No profit has been made from coaches – we run at break-even to ensure best value for fans. See attached costing comparison.
This seasonFan Zone every home game in the South Stand Bar. Volunteers organise entertainment including Tic ‘n’ Mix stall, Heritage Museum, Family Quiz, Fan of The Month, on stage interviews with players past and present, raffle – 3 hours before every home game
This seasonFan of the Month – a monthly award celebrating fans who go above and beyond to watch our team. A framed certificate and prize is presented by a player each month. Nominations are received via our website. Most recently the March award was presented to the family of Darren Orme.
This seasonSupport for the Weekly Quiz Night in Whelan’s – with Barry Worthington from the PWU Podcast who hosts the quiz. Raised over £3000 for the Community Trust and The Brick this season
This seasonOrganised post-match interviews in Whelan’s Bar with Past Players for 15 games this season.
This seasonThis season we became a “Her Game Too” partnership organisation with one of our committee members being the HGT representative for WAFC
This seasonSupport for all home matchday themes through stalls, giveaways, promotion – including 25 years at the stadium, Rainbow Laces, “Light it Up” v Bolton with over 100 glow tubes given away, “Love Latics” for Valentine’s Day
This seasonFootball Supporters Association (FSA) member with one of our committee members elected to the National Council this season for a 3 year term.
This seasonRecruited volunteers and organised the giant flag bearers every home match this season.
This seasonSupport for the WAFC Past Players Association including for the Race Night, Irish Night.
OctoberFinalists in the Wigan Business Awards “Not For profit” category
DecemberRoberto Martinez – our Honorary President, joined us for the game.
DecemberThe Brick Christmas Appeal – collected over 500 items for the appeal to provide hampers to families across Wigan
December500 free pie and peas given to members attending the home game v Shrewsbury on 21st December
JanuarySpecial commission of unique blue Uncle Joes Mint Balls for Wigan Athletic to raffle to fans x 65 jars
FebruarySupport for the Football Supporters Association (FSA) Green Weekend – boot swap for kids organised
MarchThe Wall of Hope finally completed – cost of £19,000 which has been saved by the Supporters Club since administration
MarchFirst AGM as a Supporters Trust with sponsorship from the FSA held successfully. First year accounts submitted to the Financial Conduct Authority successfully.
March-AprilOver £11,000 raised to support the family of Darren Orme with funeral costs. The remainder to be donated to the WAFC Academy and Andy’s Man Club.
AprilAttended the WAFC Academy to present to the junior players (U15/14/13) on the history of our football club and what it means to wear the shirt
AprilSupport for the Joseph’s Goal Walk from Wrexham. Provided Breakfast Barms for all 50 walkers returning to the ground and support for their after match event in Whelan’s with raffle prizes and volunteers.
AprilEaster Egg Appeal – donated over 200 chocolate eggs to the Community Trust and Diane Winnard for Kids Clubs to give away to disadvantaged children in the borough
MayAnnual Weekender to Northampton Saturday to Monday with 70 fans
MaySponsorship of the Away Player of the Season award at the End of Season Awards. 4 members of the Supporters’ Club drawn out at random, will attend the ceremony as guests to present the award.

Number of volunteer committee members – 12 – age range from 19-84 – 4 females, 8 males including one disabled representative

Number of volunteer hours this season – 1250

Number of members (including free U12’s) – 2423

Number of fans travelling away with the Supporters Club – 2800
