September was a very tricky month for Wigan Athletic, but we pulled through it on top and look good having put last season’s home record to bed.
The Latics faithful travelled in force to Shrewsbury for a top of the table clash and I think the Shrews would not have argued too much if Wigan had gone in at half time 3 goals to the good, but not taking their chances left the door open for the hosts and they took it.
I don’t think I am being unfair saying that I don’t think Town will be in the same position come the return fixture, so 3 points were definitely dropped, but heads didn’t go down as we travelled down to Charlton just 3 days later.
At the Valley those missed chances did look like being a problem again, as we dominated for large parts without getting our just rewards. But composure and patience saw the boys bang three goals in and halt Charlton’s huge home unbeaten run.

Our third match in 7 days saw us return home to face Bristol Rovers who also were flying high and looking to the playoff spots. This started out as a cage game, but chances were coming and it was not long before we got on top and Nick Powell gave a 30 minute lead.
The second half saw us extend the lead and run out 3 nil winners for the second time in 4 days. If you had looked on free bets special offers you would have got a good return for predicting the winning scores on these.
Difficult games against low lying Northampton and Plymouth were sandwiched by a trip to Peterborough. It turned out that we managed to scrape two 1-0 victories over the Cobblers and Pilgrims.
But in an epic game with Posh, we somehow managed to grab defeat from the jaws of victory with a 3-2 loss, even though we did look good.
Again the travelling army was immense, but we had to take this one on the chin as the boys couldn’t have done anything else to win this game, though we will not see two weirder goals this season.
The next games would also be a good test of character as Walsall were flying high last season and Scunthorpe are doing the business this time round. Wigan cruised past Walsall and will only regret not scoring more than the 2 goals they got in this game.
The trip to Scunthorpe was in a bit of doubt with potential International call ups. The game went ahead and Latics were good for yet another win in front of another tremendous away following. The ten men of Wigan Athletic gained a 2-1 win and edge closer to that top spot.
What is looking bets for Wigan is the small amount of goals we are conceding and the amount of chances we are creating.
There are plenty of fans on the coaches commenting on how we are going to pull off a cricket score against a team soon.
